July 24th - Was going to Southside Works but ended up doing a really big loop

I was supposed to be meeting Tasha for a late lunch at the Southside works but I got a call when I was in the Armstrong Tunnel on 10th Street that he appointment was about an hour behind schedual. So I decided to adjust my route and just circle back to the office. Here is what I ended up with.

July 23rd Tour of the North Shore

It is a great site to calculate how far a route you have walked or will walk is. I like to use the hybrid view because it lets me pick out the walking route better as the paths aren't marked on the maps unless they are right along the road and then only the road it marked. This is the 16th stree bridge. It is about 3 blocks from the office but it takes a bit of wiggleing through the side streets to get to the on ramp. This is a picture of the Seagate building from the North Shore. It would be about at the end of Madison Ave. that I took the picture. There is a walking path all along both sides of the river so it was easy to walk continuously without all the redlights to wait on. This is a mural on the side of a building on Fort Duquesne Blvd. I really like it because there are times when you can't tell what of it is a painting and what is actualy stuff on the side of the building. Can you tell for sure?
Today was a solid walk that was about 2.4 miles long. I was at about 1000 steps when I started the walk and broke 7000 when I got back to the office.

July 14-20th

Here are the results from the first week. I got the pedometer on Tuesday afternoon so that wasn't a full day and on Thursday I forgot it at home.

Saturday was a great day for distance because we got up first thing in the morning and went to the local bike/walking path and walked for about 45 minutes.

Welcome to my 10k a day for a Better life

The goal of this blog is really just to talk about how I am doing on the Just Step project through work that is a 10,000 steps a day website and competition that is happening company wide. This came at a great time because both Tasha and I have decided to loose some weight so that we feel better. We came up with the idea just before Memorial day and he goal was to drop 15 pounds. Mine was a bit more loose at the time because I wasn't sure what I wanted or where I wanted to go. After the memorial day holiday I had already lost 10 pounds and felt much better about it so it began.

Tasha is now down about 8 of her goal and because her's was a hard goal to begin with she will get a treat if she makes it all the way and can keep it there. She will probably get her tatoo on her back expanded.

I am down to 225 as of this morning and my goal is to hit 180. I started this quest at 240+ and while 60 pounds is alot to loose it is also a lot that I can loose. I don't expect it to go off really quick and I don't really want it to for fear of putting it back on easily. If I can get there by the first of the year so that I will be a nice comfortable weight for our trip to Florida at Christmas I will be happy.

So far my plan has just been to cut back on the junk food that I have been eating and to eat more but smaller meals during the day. I had been bad about waiting to eat until supper and many times that was even a late meal so I was only eating a single large meal sometime around 6-8 in the evening. Now I kick start myself first thing in the morning and try to keep it going all day. I also have increased my water intake with the goal of 64 ounces while I am at work and then normaly another 64 ounces while I am home in the evening.

Now with the Just Step project I am going to be adding some extra excersize into the mix. This week we get to try it out and see how much we walk normaly but next week we start logging for real. I am interested to see how much I normaly walk in a day so that I know how much I need to add in the future. I know I will have to add some so I expect I will be doing some laps around the building here on the 4th floor to do me some good.

If I can find a way to post a link to my results I will if not I will be posting summaries as they come along.
